Project Ushba
Project Overview
Deep Mine Storage
Rewind is scaling its impact in Tkibuli, Georgia through Project Ushba, our first commercial site to leverage Deep Mine Storage (DMS). There, sustainably sourced biomass is injected into mine chambers, where naturally anoxic (oxygen-free) conditions create a geologically stable carbon store.
Named after Mount Ushba, one of Georgia’s highest and most iconic peaks, the project has been underway since July 2025 and is actively delivering carbon removal. Mount Ushba represents both ambition and resilience—qualities we aim to embody across all our projects.
Co-benefits of DMS
- Preventing methane emissions and explosions
- Supporting mine integrity and safety
- Returning carbon underground, aligned with our Rewind vision
