Project Kishon
Project Overview
Sediment Carbon Storage
In the Mediterranean, Rewind has deployed a 20-ton pilot using Sediment Carbon Storage (SCS), a method that places biomass beneath seabed sediments where oxygen is absent and decomposition dramatically slows. This approach builds on existing port maintenance and dredging practices, allowing for carbon storage alongside routine sediment management. The pilot is part of early-stage scientific validation efforts, with environmental assessments underway. While still in development, SCS offers a promising path to local, flexible, and cost-effective carbon removal, particularly in regions with sediment-rich coastlines or port infrastructure.
Co-benefits of SCS
- Rebalancing carbon in marine sediments
- Supporting mine integrity and safety
