We are excited to announce that Isometric has officially certified the Biomass Storage in Subsurface Mines (BSSM) Module. After a comprehensive public consultation involving leading academics and industry peers, our approach for high-durability CDR now has a certified protocol.

This confirms that storing sustainably sourced residual biomass in existing subsurface mines meets the Isometric Standard, enabling the issuance of carbon removal certificates with a durability of over 1,000 years.

Kudos to the Isometric Team

We had the privilege of providing comprehensive feedback throughout the development of this module. The Isometric team proved to be world-class, highly professional, and efficient in turning complex environmental science into a functional reality. Their ability to maintain such rigorous standards while moving at speed sets a benchmark for the entire industry.

"Rewind focuses on science-led, permanent, and energy-efficient carbon removal. It's been a pleasure to support the development of this new module, and we look forward to applying it to our DMS Georgia project."

— Ram Amar, Co-Founder and CEO of Rewind

Snapshot: The BSSM Module

The BSSM Module codifies the technical requirements for the storage site:

  • Anaerobic Permanence: Deep, oxygen-free conditions that halt biomass decay.
  • Geological Stability: 1,000+ year durability via natural thermal & structural protection.
  • Residual Biomass: Using waste and ensuring high additionality.
  • Verified Oversight: Continuous monitoring to ensure long-term site integrity.

What’s Next: The DMS Georgia Project is Going Live

Now comes the execution. Our DMS Georgia project is moving onto the Isometric Registry very soon. This will be the first project in the world to issue certificates under this newly certified module, transforming residual biomass from local sawmills into permanent climate impact.

If your organization aims to lead with the most rigorously tested CDR available today, we invite you to reach out now to secure an allocation.

Collaborate With Us

We believe transparency is the bedrock of the CDR market. We encourage you to read the full certified module here & Isometric announcement to see the science for yourself.

Whether you are looking to support the project or explore how our subsurface pathway fits your sustainability strategy, let's connect and turn this new standard into global impact.

DMS Georgia: World’s first deep mine carbon storage

Today is an exciting milestone for us at Rewind: we are launching our DMS Project in the city of Tkibuli, Georgia - the world’s first commercial Deep Mine Storage (DMS) facility. A carbon removal project that is meets all key criteria: permanent, operationally scalable, reasonably priced, and grounded in the Earth’s own natural processes. We source residual sawmill biomass, and inject it into sealed underground disused mine chambers, where the isolation and anoxia will preserve the solid plant carbon for geological time scales.
